In a scathing admission of guilt, a woman from California in the US has admitted to drowning her three children. Liliana Carrillo (30) confessed to the murder of her son Terry and daughters Joanna and Sierra during a jailhouse interview.
While Joanna was three-years-old, Terry was two and Sierra only six-months-old. They lived with Carrillo and their father, Erik Denton in an apartment in Reseda, Los Angeles.
Last weekend, the dead bodies of her three children were recovered from the apartment. Police arrested Liliana on suspicion of murder hours later in Tulare County.
The mother from California now says she drowned her kids to “protect them” from their abusive father. “I drowned them. I did it as softly, I don’t know how to explain it,” Carrillo told KGET-TV during an interview at the Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility in Kern County.
While stating that she expects to spend the rest of her life in prison, Liliana Carrillo said she wished her kids were alive. “I prefer them not being tortured and abused on a regular basis for the rest of their lives,” she said.
While seeking custody of the children in March of this year, Erik Denton had accused Carrillo of being delusional. In return, Carrillo filed a restraining order against him in which she said that Denton was an alcoholic.
Carrillo also said during the interview that she intended to drive off a cliff but was apprehended by the police before she could kill herself.
On Wednesday, Carrillo pleaded not guilty in a Kern County courtroom to four felony counts of auto theft, carjacking and attempted carjacking.
However, charges of murder have not been brought against her as of yet.
