Royal Challengers Bangalore vice-captain AB de Villiers was mighty pleased with his batting performance in his team’s 38-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 10 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday.
RCB rode on superb knocks from Glenn Maxwell and de Villiers to post 204 for 4 on the board and then restricted KKR to 166 for 8 to win their third match in succession this season.
Maxwell top-scored with 78 runs while de Villiers made 76 as the duo added 53 off 37 balls for the fourth-wicket to tilt the scales in RCB’s favour. Both batsmen hit 9 fours and 3 sixes each during their whirlwind knocks.
“I did play well and had a lot of fun. Maxi made it easier and it’s difficult coming into a game on a pitch that has been slower,” de Villiers said after picking up the Player of the Match award.
ABD made a special mention to his wife Danielle and kids – who watched the match from the stands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
“It was a bit of both. It wasn’t a 200-wicket; maybe 170 was about par today. The most important thing is I’m enjoying myself and my cricket – my family is here,” de Villiers added.
RCB bowlers backed up the good performance from their batsmen with Kyle Jamieson leading the pack with 3 wickets for 41 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal got among the wickets for the first time this season, bagging 2 for 34 while Harshal Patel also chipped in with a couple of scalps in the death overs to contribute to RCB’s win.
Royal Challengers Bangalore top the table now with 6 points from 3 games and will play their next match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the first time this season when they take on Rajasthan Royals on April 22.
