Pandya ‘glad to be back’ after long injury layoff

Hardik Pandya was delighted to be back on the field after being out of action for over 5 months. Back in October 2023, Pandya sustained the injury during India’s World Cup match against Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh. While bowling, Hardik fell on the ground and could not continue bowling.

He looked in extreme pain, after which he walked off the park. Thereafter, he was ruled out of the tournament, much to his agony.

Recently, Hardik made his return to competitive cricket in the ongoing DY Patil T20 Cup 2024. On Monday, he played for the Reliance 1 in their match against the BPCL at the DY Patil Stadium.

After the match, Hardik took to Instagram to show how happy he was after making a return to competitive cricket.

“Glad to be back doing what I love,” Hardik wrote.

How did Hardik Pandya perform on return?

Pandya picked up 2 wickets and finished with figures of 3-0-22-2. After conceding 21 runs in his first 2 overs, he accounted for the wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Eknath Kerkar. He took some time to find his rhythm before getting amongst the wickets.

On the back of his spell, Reliance 1 restricted their opponents to 126 in 18.3 overs. Dev Lakra (3-31) and Piyush Chawla (3-15) also impressed for their team.

Thereafter, Nehal Wadhera scored 50 as Reliance 1 chased down the target with 5 overs to spare. Aakash Mishra got 5 wickets, but his efforts went in vain.

As far as Pandya is concerned, he is expected to be seen in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, he replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians (MI).

In 2022, under Hardik’s captaincy, Gujarat Titans won the IPL title. Thereafter, Hardik helped GT finish as the runners-up in 2023 before moving to his old franchise, MI.
