Ireland star Simi Singh dealing with ‘life-threatening’ illness

Ireland cricketer Simi Singh is currently dealing with “life-threatening health circumstances”. The details of the Indian-born cricketer are yet not known. Singh hasn’t played competitive cricket since last representing Leinster Lightning in the Cricket Ireland Inter-Provincial Limited Over Cup back in September 2023.

The 37-year-old Singh has also played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is for Ireland since making his debut back in May 2017. His last match for the Irish men’s team came back in 2022 against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup on Australian soil.

“We have received shocking news that our friend Simi Singh is currently dealing with life-threatening health circumstances,” Cricket Ireland said in a statement by CEO Warren Deutrom.

“After moving to Ireland, Simi has become a central figure within Irish cricket – whether at international, provincial or club level – he has shown a desire and drive to succeed. We now hope that this same drive will see him come through the current circumstances.

“Stay strong, Simi, we’re all behind you,” the statement added.

Back in 2021, Singh became the first batter to score an ODI hundred while batting at No.8 or below in the 50-over format. He achieved the feat against South Africa at The Village in Dublin.

On the back of his knock, Simi was also picked in the ICC’s ODI team of the Year in 2021.

Apart from scoring 889 runs with a century and two fifties, Singh has also taken 83 wickets for Ireland with a five-wicket haul to show for his efforts.

The fifer he got was against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) back in January 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
