IPL 2020: Really happy with the performance, says Shreyas Iyer after clinical DC thump CSK to top points table

Buoyed by two back-to-back victories, Delhi Capitals’ skipper Shreyas Iyer says he is delighted with the performance of the team as DC produced a clinical effort on the field to beat Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs in Dubai on Sunday.

As of Friday, Delhi have claimed the top spot with four points after winning both their matches against Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings. The victory against CSK saw Delhi’s players like Prithvi Shaw and Kagiso Rabada coming up with crucial performances to take the team over the line.

“I am really happy with the performance. I would give them the benefit of doubt, which is tough to catch in these conditions. You misjudge the ball, really don’t know how to pace yourself,” Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

A clinical bowling performance led by Kagiso Rabada (3/26) and Anrich Nortje (2/21) helped Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 44 runs and Iyer was full of praises for the South African duo.

“In the team meeting, we decided that we are going to assess the batting conditions early and then play accordingly. The way the openers started gave us a lot of confidence and the finish was good too. I am lucky to have KG and Nortje in the team. It’s important to stick together as a team and we need to enjoy each other’s success,” Iyer added.

Was striking the ball well: Man of the match Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw struck a fluent half-century and shared a 94-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan to guide Delhi Capitals to 175 for three against Chennai Super Kings. Shaw’s 5th IPL fifty took him second on the list of batsmen with most 50s before the age of 21. The list is headed by Rishabh Pant, who has 9 fifties in his IPL career so far.

“In the start you have to see how the wicket is, playing along the ground is more important. I was striking the ball well last year as well, but I was making silly mistakes. This time I decided to play more ground shots. I would like to see the highlights of my knock and understand how it went and what I could do. The wicket was nice to bat on,” Prithvi Shaw said after being adjudged Man of the match against CSK.
